Wolverines compete in Skipper Classic
MANDEVILLE — Northlake Christian faught hard but eventually fell 54-68 to the Lakeshore Titans in the first game of the
Skipper Classic hosted by Mandeville High School. The Wolverines are stepping up in and competing against bigger teams in class 4A and 5A.
NCS opened the game on a 6-0 run and strectched it out to 16-8 on a TK Keiffer 3 pointer with 1:12 to play in the first quarter. Wolverines
led 18-12 at the end of the first quarter.
Lakeshore's size began to effect NCS early in the second as they opened the quarter with a 4-0 run of their own. Both teams traded buckets
before Tevin Woods connected on a short runner shortly before halftime and Northlake would hold a slim 31-29 advantage going into the break.
The Titans big men scored 21 points in the second half and pulled away for the win.
Dane Landry led the scoring for the Wolverines with 20 points while Josh O'Rear kicked in 10 of his own.
Northlake will play Fontainebleau at 5:00pm tonight at Mandeville High.
The Northlake Christian Basketball program is part of the
LHSAA Conference (Louisiana High School Athletic Association) District 8-2A.
The program is open to Varsity (9th - 12th Grade), Junior Varsity
(9th - 11th Grade), Junior High (7th - 8th Grade), and Elementary (5th - 6th Grade).
Try-outs for various teams are held in October. The season runs from the beginning of
October through March. Practices take place during the week. Individual team schedules
will be listed (when available). Games are generally held on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Tournament days vary. NCS students who have a 2.0 grade point average (or better)
can try out and belong to the team.
